While I was in Portland this past week I came across these giant Shell Toe adidas shoes.  The left shoe was decorated by street artists from Upper Playground of San Francisco, while the right shoe was done by Surface2Air of New York City.  Anthem Art and Design Magazine has a sweet vid on their site of this Left-Right Project.  Adidas has been making these shell-toes for almost 40 years now and most likely you have skated in a pair.  While adidas shell-toes didn’t give you the that “close to the board” feel that your chucks or vans did, they certainly lasted longer.  Shell-toes have been there from the beginning of skate and have managed to stick around.  Check out the new adidas skate site featuring Mark Gonzalez.

If the histoy of skate footwear interests you, you have to check out Made For Skate–The Illustrated History of Skateboard Footwear.
